WE ARE THE EPICENTER OF
THE MID-SOUTH
TRANSPORTATION &
INFRASTRUCTURE
RIVER The Mississippi River and the Port of Greenville offers a vital multimodal system unlike any other that facilitates the shipment of agricultural products, industrial goods, and other commodities to national and international markets, moving 5.2 million tons of cargo annually.
ROAD U.S. Highways 82 and 61 intersect in Leland, providing easy access to regional and national markets, making quick distribution a breeze.
RAIL Rail remains a cornerstone of our infrastructure logistics. Columbus & Greenville (C&G) offers Class III service to Greenwood where the line interchanges with Canadian National Rail (CN), extending Class I service south to New Orleans and north all the way to Canada, where the line spans the continent, from the Pacific to the Atlantic Ocean.
AIR Greenville Mid-Delta Airport offers general public aviation services for both passenger and cargo operations. The Airport is served by a commercial airline reaching a 10,000 enplanement mark last year. Originally established as the Greenville Air Force Base, our local Airport also offers acreage and hangars to meet your needs.
EDUCATION &
workforce
We place a strong emphasis on education and workforce development to support economic growth and meet the needs of local industries. The county benefits from a network of educational institutions, training programs, and community initiatives aimed at preparing residents for a competitive job market. Mississippi Delta Community College Greenville site is located in the heart of Washington County, providing a growing wide range of training and educational components to meet our workforce demands.
Small Business
Entrepreneurship
Small business entrepreneurship plays a vital role in driving local economic growth, creating jobs, and fostering innovation within Washington County. WCEA, the Chamber, and Delta Compass all provide guidance, training, and access to funding opportunities.
Key industries in the region include agriculture, manufacturing, retail, and hospitality, with many entrepreneurs tapping into these sectors to develop unique, community-focused businesses. Programs such as our business incubator, networking sessions, and classes help equip small business owners with the tools and connections they need to succeed, ensuring a growing and resilient entrepreneurial ecosystem.
